We're Leaving This Place September 12th 2025.
In summer of 2024, Look Back Luna parted ways with their bassist and drummer. Gabe and Kayla, the founder and remaining member, had an album written and wanted to record it. They formed an acoustic duo and played for months until they had enough to afford it. Tucked into smoky-country bar corners, they funded it and worked with Eric Novroski of Novros Studios to bring it to life. Gabe, Kayla, and Eric worked on the album from February to June of 2025. It's release date is September 12th.
A word from Kayla: This album is a culmination of what Gabe and I have learned about life and music up and until 2024, (oh the lessons we've learned since.) The lyrics are a combination of both Gabe and I's. With themes regarding family, relationships, death, religion, and the feelings that come with being a "young adult". We're Leaving This Place. Getting the fuck out of here. Out of the reality that we have all come to ignorantly accept. Into a world of our own creation. Along with the album, I wanted to create a visual addition that includes photos I associated with the songs, with the lyrics handwritten over them, sort of like an old CD liner.
In terms of my musical contributions to this project: this was a brand new experience for me, and I learned most things along the way. I have yet to deeply analyze my vocals, but I have heard that I sound like a combination of The Cranberries and The Wonder Years. I also found inspiration from Movements, Carly Cosgrove, and Arm's Length in my lyrics and melodies. You'll see Gabe has quite different taste, and the dichotomy contributes to our unique sound. Another first for me was recording live clarinet on a track, as well as composing some key and string parts.
A word from Gabe: I think music is one of the most healing things a person can do, and that’s the beauty of it for me. When we were writing the record (Kayla and I) we went with the approach of storytelling through music. We took things from our personal lives and used them to fuel the fire for the record. On my end, playing wise, I just let it rip. There was really no holding back for me at all on this record, no constraints, nothing. Just me being myself as a player and doing some of what I’d consider to be my best work.
My influences for this record are very broad across genres and artists. My playing style takes huge inspiration from the classic rock bands I grew up listening to. For example “Desire” is such a testament to that, and is my favorite track on the record from a writing standpoint. I think it was a matter of just combining all of those old styles of rock that I love with some modern stuff. Which is why Kayla and I work so well together because she has such a different background than myself. Anyway, here’s my list of influences for the record, these are, but not limited to, the following - Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, Prince, Black Sabbath, MCR, Tame Impala (especially Currents), Title Fight, Turnstile, Teen Mortgage, Origami Angel, and AC/DC. If it weren’t for AC/DC and Angus Young, I would’ve never picked up the electric guitar.
